About the Item
Mary Segars grew up in Blacksburg, VA, and attended the College of William & Mary, where she majored in Biology. She had an interest in art from the age of 7, but didn’t pick up a brush to paint until moving to Beaufort, SC in 1996. Mary is completely self-taught. Since 1998, she has had 12 personal shows and has participated in a large number of juried exhibits and festivals. She has won 29 awards to date, including Best in Show at the 2015 Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Festival for her entire body of work. Mary has produced 3 large pieces of public art in Beaufort, 2 murals and a mosaic, and was chosen in 2015 to be displayed on a billboard in the South Carolina low country as part of the Art Pop program.
Mary teaches frequent oil painting classes and workshops to both beginner and experienced painters throughout the Southeast.
