“Landscape with Sunlit Castle in Ruins, ” in the Manner of Sidney Richard Percy

A British oil on canvas landscape in the manner of, and possibly by, Sidney Richard Percy, (1821-1886), an English painter who specialized in dramatic British highland landscapes. Percy, né Williams, came from a successful family of painters, and he began to use the surname Percy around 1841 to differentiate himself from other members of the Williams family, becoming, himself, the most successful of the Williamses. Percy’s use of light is quite distinctive throughout his works; atmospheric yet conveyed with a striking lucidity.
