Life Painting Standing Figure by John Kaine, 1960
About the Item
The abstract life painting of a standing or kneeling figure by John Kaine 1960's Acrylic was executed on board framed with pine wood.
John Kaine presents us with a female nude in a position of action or inaction, descending or ascending. The figure is painted in mostly muted colours of brown, umbra, mocha and toffee. There is an outline of mostly salmon pink around the silhouette of the body. Behind the feet of the figure and above the figure there seems to be a void of light. To the left of her frame she seems to be clutching or holding a bar in slate grey. The strength of the painting is its ambiguity of the nudes simple position and the questions of the viewer.
The painter John Kaine studied fine art in the late 1950s at the Royal College of Art and won the Rome and Abbey Scholarship. Later he taught at Maidstone school of Art.
