About the Item
A very beautiful mid-19th century oil-on-canvas painting of a young Saint Francis praying at an altar, circa 1860. The artist is Juaquin Vayreda (1843-1894). This painting is a copy of a composition by the Catalan painter Antoni Viladomat, from the early 18th century, for the cloister of the San Francesc de Barcelona convent. The depiction is of Saint Francis receiving the order from the crucifix at Saint Damian to repair the House of God.
