Mixed Media Paint and Wax Construction by Matthew Rose

About the Item

An original mixed media paint and wax construction on wood titled "Yvonne (30 Girlfriends)", and dated 1997-2002, by the accomplished international artist Matthew Rose, an American expat artist, writer and musician living and working in Paris, France. Known widely for his collage works and wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor installations, he graduated from Brown University (1981) with a degree in Semiotics/Linguistics. Influenced by the American artists Ray Johnson, Jasper Johns, Joseph Cornell and a handful of French surrealists, Rose works late hours rending paper and bits of text to remake contemporary life into a specific, yet unbound book, what the artist calls his “theory of everything.” “Most of my work involves collage; I cut and paste in all flavors. But I draw, paint, sculpt, find, assemble and put together words as well. I'm always working, I never close." Matthew Rose is present in numerous private collections throughout the world and in public collections such as the MoMA in NYC, the LACMA in Los Angeles, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boca Raton and the Boulder Colorado Museum amongst others. Published: Coronaville. A graphic novella about the Trump Pandemic. Cornell Museum, Delray Beach, Florida. Curated by Melanie Johanson.
