About the Item
Early abstract modernist painting by the noted painter Chase Bailey, who was also an accomplished film writer, actor, producer, and director who has worked with John Malkovich, Johnny Depp, and Uma Thurman, among others. Signed lower right "Chase" and dated 1971. Additionally, titled on the back "Women's Liberation #2" and signed Chase Bailey Jan 72.
This is the earliest known full size canvas by Chase Bailey. We surmise that this work from 1971 must have had great meaning to him as he carried it with him rolled throughout the years, including a move to Paris, France and only recently before his death had it stretched, framed and hanging in a prominent place in his Portsmouth, NH studio.
There are some vertical fracture lines to the surface from having been stored rolled for many decades and a slight shrinkage to the top and bottom margins, but the paint is entirely stable and still quite flexible. In any case, it doesn’t detract from the impact of the work.
