- Minimalist Geometric Abstract Relief in Tonal Whites by Dutch ArtistLocated in AMSTERDAM, NLExpressive abstract relief in white by Dutch artist Henk van Putten (1936-2019) Van Putten called himself a constructivist in the tradition of Vladimir Tatlin, with whom he shared not only aesthetic principles but also social commitment. For example, almost everything he made in 3D is made up of several parts; glued, welded or screwed together. In his paintings, which he often made prior to the 3D version, he even painted the seams where they would appear in the later work. Van Putten’s work, although easily recognisable, shows a clear affinity with artists he admires such as André Volten, Gerrit Rietveld and more generally with ‘De Stijl’. Yet he made no contact with them; he felt much more like a kindred spirit of German artists, especially the ZERO movement whose members, like himself, were strongly involved in society. He befriends people like Egon Eppich and Hap Grieshaber...Category

The expressive brushstrokes are typical for the style of Vijlbrief, connecting him to CoBrA and the expressive action paintings of Karel Appel. This small work is a great example of the early style of Vijlbrief and a highly collectible piece. Signed in top corner and verso signed, dated and titled. Ernst Vijlbrief, born November 25th, 1934, in Utrecht studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam and at the Academia di Porta Romana in Florence (1956-1959). In the late fifties, after moving to Amsterdam in 1958, he painted in an expressive style, similar to CoBrA. In 1961 he took part in the large exhibition “Jongere Nederlandse schilders, beeldhouwers en architekten: Liga Nieuw Beelden” in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Next to his work as an artist, Vijlbrief was an engaged board member of several artist associations, like the Beroepsvereniging van Beeldende Kunstenaars (Professional Association of Visual Artists). In 1973 he cofounded Bond van Beeldende Kunstarbeiders (BBKA) in Utrecht, with artist Bob Bonies. His work is held in collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Cobramuseum in Amstelveen, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and The Ferens Art Gallery UK. $2,855 Sale Price20% Off - Rudi Polder Abstract Landschap, Luminist Painting, 1980s Blue TonesLocated in AMSTERDAM, NLCalming and tranquil work by Dutch artist Rudi Polder, known for his beautiful paintings of seascapes in soft pastels. Calming and tranquil work by Dutch artist Rudi Polder, known for his beautiful paintings of seascapes in soft pastels. Rudi Polder is the son of the Hague painter Gerrit Polder. At the age of seventeen Rudi Polder started painting in the naturalistic style of his father Gerrit Polder. After the Second World War, Rudi Polder traveled and drew portraits along the way to earn a living. In 1953 he decided to live in Marseille and rented a studio above the home of the French photographer Albert Detail (1903-1996). In September and October 1953 his first exhibition took place in Bagnols-sur-Cèze with about 50 paintings, the majority of which were painted in Marseille. Rudi Polder married a French woman in France. From this marriage two sons were born, Claude and Serge Polder. During this period, Rudi Polder also traveled to Sweden, Stockholm and Gothenburg, where he sold his paintings. In 1959, this relationship ended in divorce. Rudi Polder returned to the Netherlands to start a new life there and met his life partner Wally Vermij. Rudi Polder and Wally left for France again, where they bought a neglected house in Roquefort-les-Corbières, Languedoc. They converted this house into a refurbished house with studio and exhibition space. His painting style evolved over the years from impressionism (1943-1984) via luminism (1985-1994) to abstract (1986-2006). In January 1957 his works were exhibited at the Lucy Krohg gallery in Paris. Critics praised it, especially George Besson, a French art critic and the founder and director of Cahiers d’Aujourd’hui. The last exhibition in Marseille, before he left for the Netherlands, took place in 1959. In the years that followed, Polder exhibited his works in the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Belgium, among others. “Light on end of sea”, 1984, signed and dated on the front and verso.
