A neapolitan gouache depicting a Vesuvius eruption, circa 1840. Inscription on frame verso detailing provenance from Collins family of New York: "Charles Bush Collins bought this picture in Naples about the year 1865 - Carrie to C.C. Merriam - eventually by heir given 1916 to Augusta Merriam Hone” sight: 32 ¼ by 15 inches frame: 38 by 21 inches
