Original Oil on Canvas Portrait of Girl Standing with Bouquet of Flowers by Gust

About the Item

Enchanting portrait of a girl standing with a bouquet of pink flowers in her hand. Unsigned, Oil on canvas. On the back of the stretcher an exhibition label from Charlottenborg (the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts). Contains minor retouches, a few minimal peelings/scratches. Frame shows typical age-related wear. Gustava Emilie Grüner was a student of Malthe Engelsted from 1894. Subsequently she studied at the Académie Colarossi in Paris, where she was taught by Gérardot, G.E.C. Courtois and Lucien Simon. She undertook several study tours to Italy and France and repeatedly stayed in Norway, Sweden and Germany. Grüner exhibited industriously throughout her life, and her production includes numerous landscapes as well as interiors and floral paintings. It is, however, in painting portaits she truly excelled - her childrens portraits (such as this one) have been characterized as having an almost classical bearing.
