About the Item
We recently acquired a number of paintings from the estate of the noted outsider artist Peter Paul Sakowski (1915-2000) of Holyoke, Mass. His style tended to vary from an illustrative graphic quality to the more fractured cubism he adopted during the 1950s and 60s. He was at heart a folk artist rooted in the WPA era traditions of social realism that he of came of age with in the 1930s. This portrait of dancing figures demonstrates a fluid and abstract style. Titled “Juvenile Dancers”, dated 1957. He had a fascination during this time with the symbolism of the modern dance icon Martha Graham and his figures appear in the sack dress for which she was known.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Painting surface is in fine vintage condition, with minor areas of cupping to the canvas board. Minor signs of age appropriate wear to the artist made vintage wood frame.
