About the Item

Painting property 944/948 (Cobalt blue and light turquoise blue circle) Hand painted 3D relief in acrylic paint on encaustic board. Painting is with a circular motif with a subtle exchange of colour starting with light turquoise blue, progressing to cobalt blue. Finished with a Matt U.V. protective varnish. Examples of paintings from the 'Property’ series are essentially a form of 3d printing by the artists hand. This painting falls into the categories of modern, abstract and geometric art. A section of the painting surface is removed, working horizontally from the back of the painting the void is gradually replaced by layer upon layer of acrylic paint. Each layer is left to dry naturally, allowing the fluidity of paint and gravity to run their course. The pigment is then adjusted to a pre-determined formula and the process repeated. The work fluctuates between painting and sculpture. Over a period of time a geometric yet unique exchange of colour emerges from the flat saturated hue of the paintings surface, made entirely from paint. They live and work together in The Netherlands. Over the past decade Jody and Chris have also collaborated as visual artists. Working meticulously by hand with layers of paint the couple are reimagining elements of their own industrial practices as unique process painting. An objective and systematic approach is deliberately antithetical to the slow drying and unpredictable medium. Therefore, taking the path to a more meditative tempo commonly found in western abstraction and eastern applied arts.
