About the Item

Oil on canvas presented in original frame, signed and dated 1913 lower left. Could be considered one of the artist's masterworks. Canvas size 40" x 61" Frame size 49" x 71" Exhibited: Den Frie 1914 no. 191. Copenhagen. Viggo Christian Frederik Vilhelm Pedersen (born March 11, 1854 in Copenhagen, died April 19, 1926 in Roskilde) was a Danish painter, who primarily was known as a landscape painter. Viggo Pedersen learned to draw from his father Thomas Vilhelm Pedersen and was then admitted to CV Nielsen's Drawing School and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from September 1871 to spring 1878. He was traveling abroad in Germany (1873), in Paris (1881) and then traveled to Switzerland (where Joakim Skovgaard came across him) and Italy, which he visited several times since, as well as traveling to Holland and Germany. While he was a student of the Academy of Art , he painted under PC Skovgaard, later under Janus La Cour , and of these artists showed the landscape pictures, he exhibited from 1875, strong influence. Several of his first works were purchased by the Art Association, and in 1877 he received the Southern African Encouragement Award for Outside a Brewery. In the spring of 1881 he traveled to Paris and received a very strong impression of modern French landscape art; they appeared most clearly in the broadly and vividly painted and highly effective run-up road under old trees, which in 1882 was acquired by the National Gallery as well as later Sunshine in the Dagligstuen (1888) and the large, atmospheric By Nattens Frembrud (1890), which at the exhibition was honored with the annual medal. Several times he was in Paris and Italy with support from the Academy; Of little importance to him was his stay in Sora in Campania, where he lived with Joakim Skovgaard . In recent years, Pedersen has done not get larger and smaller outdoor pictures, in which figures play a prominent role, so the great Isaac sees Rebekka come and Duet, as well as interiors with figures, such as Mary's Annunciation; on the whole he has painted not getting biblical images, distinguished by heartfelt and serious feeling, a peculiar grandeur of the composition and rich coloristic effect. He was a member of the Academy's Plenary Assembly (1904) and of the Academy Council 1908-1911.

Wear consistent with age and use. The painting is in excellent original condition, the frame does have a few nicks, but this should be expected due to the age. Nothing that distracts.
