Fikentscher, Otto (1862 - 1945) - Roe deer in the forest Measures: 90 x 65 cm - dimensions referring to the canvas only 102 x 78 cm - frame size included Oil painting on canvas, signed lower right. 1910s era. A male roe deer, in its element: the thick of the woods. Motionless in the suspended moment in which all the senses are tense to perceive even the smallest noise, movement, displacement of air. Signs of a near and unknown danger, which in an instant will make elastic muscles dart, which will carry our roe deer to safety, in the even more dense, steep and inaccessible wood. Otto Hermann Fikentscher (6 July 1862 in Zwickau, 26 February 1945 in Baden-Baden) he was a painter, engraver, lithographer and sculptor. Life Son of chemical producer Friedrich Christian Fikentscher and his second wife Rosalie, geb. Mensing (1826–1895), he attended Zwickau high school. After training as a sculptor, Fikentscher studied at the Dresden School of Applied Arts from 1880 and at the Munich Academy from 1884. In 1888 he followed his teacher Hermann Baisch to the Grand Ducal Badische Kunstschule in Karlsruhe. In 1891 he bought the Augustenburg in Grötzingen, set up his apartment on the first floor there and gave Grötzinger's group of painters a place to stay. Works Fikentscher's most important theme was the representation of animals, often in their natural environment, partly as oil paintings, partly as watercolors. Exhibitions Otto Fikentscher has been represented several times with his works at the great art exhibitions in Berlin, at the international art exhibition in Düsseldorf in 1904, at the Munich Glass Palace and at the exhibition of the artists' union in Karlsruhe in 1906.
