Chanco (Roland), painter born in Reignac-sur-Indre on February 05, 1914 and died on July 11, 2017 in Roquefort les Pins at the age of 103 years. In the 1930s, he left his native Touraine where he was already noted for his talents as a painter and moved to Paris to to learn sculpture in Marcel Gimond's studio. But very quickly, he returned to painting and frequented great artists such as Maurice Utrilo, Edmond Heuze, Gen Paul and Pablo Picasso who noticed "the vigor of his paintings." Paris inspired him so much, especially the district of Butte Montmartre. It was in 1947 that he decided to settle on the French Riviera. He finds Pablo Picasso and rubs shoulders with Joan Miro, Jean Lurcat, Jean Cocteau, Marc Chagall and many others. From 1970, Roland Chanco modifies his painting and enters his period called "kaleidoscopic" where his creative power gives his compositions surprising effects. His imagination creates unusual and endearing characters that vibrate with colors.
