Set of 2 so-called 'Trompe L'oeuil' ( (deception of the eye) paintings - still life with dead game.
These paintings were already made in the 16th century and developed into a genre in the 17th century. The objective was to paint materials and structures in such a way the eye of the beholder was deceived to think they were real. On these paintings the frame is painted and as such not real.
