Richard Yarde
Richard Yarde was born in 1939 in Boston, Massachusett, and died in 2011 in Northampton, Massachusetts. He received a B.F.A. cum laude and an M.F.A. from Boston University and was awarded the Academy Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1995 and the Massachusetts Commonwealth Award for Fine Art in 2002. Yarde was known for his unique watercolor style rendering imagined scenes from the vibrant jazz world of the Harlem Renaissance. His work was the subject of solo exhibitions at the Fuller Art Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts; the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, Massachusetts; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts; and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, among others. It can also be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
