This watercolor by Alberto Prosdocimi depicts a view of the Basilica della Madonna della Salute in Venice and has the artist's signature at lower left.
Alberto Prosdocimi (Sept. 9, 1852 - 1925) was an Italian painter and manuscript illuminator known for his frequent depictions of Venetian views in watercolors of pale, luminous hues, which often found buyers beyond Italy's borders.
This work is framed with a coeval "Venetianina" frame, made of carved wood, lacquered and highlighted in gold. Its total dimensions are 77.5x106 cm.
Frames of this type, commonly called "venezianine," were widely used by Venetian painters in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries.
Anti-reflective and anti-UV museum glass protects the work, helping to preserve it over time.
