About the Item
Star Wars (retroactively titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas, produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by 20th Century-Fox. It stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, David Prowse, James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew. It is the first instalment of the original Star Wars trilogy, the first of the franchise to be produced, and the fourth episode of the "Skywalker saga".
This poster is from the 1982 Japanese re-release of the film following the success of The Empire Strikes Back. The design is the original Style "A" by renowned poster artist Tom Jung. Featuring Luke & Leia in the forefront of the design, Darth Vader's presence is seen large in the background. Jung described the cross from Luke's lightsaber distorting the face of Vader as a good solution to the "good vs. evil" themes.
