Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT) is a French shipping company. Founded in 1855 by the Péreire brothers under the name Compagnie Générale Maritime, it was charged by the State with ensuring the transport of mail to North America and took its final name in 1861. In 1883, four large-scale liners speed are put into service for Cruises.
This poster was produced to promote tourism by boat via the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. Rest, relaxation and comfort are the key words of cruises on CGT boats.
Albert Brenet is a French painter, poster designer and illustrator. In 1936, he was appointed painter of the Navy and painter of the Air, then painter of the Armies in 1959. He traveled the seas of the world on different ships making sketches, oil paintings, gouaches, ships, ports but also scenes from the life of the crews.
