'Manhattan' Original Vintage Us Lobby Card Movie Poster, 1979

About the Item

An international style US lobby card for Woody Allen's 1979 romantic comedy "Manhattan," starring co-writer and director Allen as a twice-divorced middle-aged comedy writer dating a high-school girl (Mariel Hemingway) after his wife (Meryl Streep) leaves him for a woman, who then falls in love with his best friend's mistress (Diane Keaton). Shot in lustrous black and white with a Gershwin soundtrack, the movie was Allen's love letter to New York City. The film’s most memorable image is Woody Allen and Diane Keaton sitting on a bench at dawn on the banks of the East River, silhouetted against the backdrop of Queensboro bridge. Although used on the US One Sheet and British Quad posters, the scene was not featured in the US Lobby Card set. However, the Classic image was chosen for the first card in the "international style" Lobby Card set, which was printed in the United States for use at theatres with Spanish speaking audiences, making this a rare and sought after card. Lobby Cards were designed for display in a cinema lobby to lure the movie-going public. Typically released in sets of 8, each card depicted a different scene from the film.

'Breakfast at Tiffany's' Original Vintage US Lobby Card Movie Poster, 1961
By Robert E. McGinnis
Located in Devon, GB
Lobby Cards were designed for display in a cinema lobby to lure the movie-going public. Typically released in sets of 8, each card depicted a different scene from the film. This charming US lobby card for 'Breakfast At Tiffany's,' number 7 of the set, depicts Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly and George Peppard as Paul Varjak sipping coffee against a backdrop of Manhattan. Featuring a miniature version of Robert McGinnis' iconic artwork used for the US insert, the lobby cards offer a bit of Tiffany's magic at a more affordable price point than the larger and highly sought after US Campaign posters. Holly Golightly would be Audrey Hepburn’s defining role, establishing her status as one of the greatest screen legends and style icons of all time. It seems unbelievable now that Truman Capote, author of the novella on which the movie was based, had his heart set on Marilyn Monroe for the part. Monroe pulled out of the running when her acting coach advised her not to play a lady of the night...

James Bond 'Moonraker' Original Vintage Australian Daybill Movie Poster, 1979
Located in Devon, GB
Capitalising on the sci-fi space craze in the wake of 'Star Wars,' EON Productions opted to postpone filming 'For Your Eyes Only' in favour of loosely adapting Ian Fleming's 'Moonraker' as the eleventh instalment in the James Bond series. And so Roger Moore's fourth outing as agent 007 saw him head into outer space to prevent a plot to wipe out the world population and recreate humanity with a master race. Despite production costs more than double those of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977), the space-age lark became the highest grossing 007 movie to date, until usurped by 'Goldeneye' in 1995. The Australian Daybill poster featured the same spectacular silvery artwork by American artist Daniel Goozee as the British and US poster campaigns, which pictured Bond in a spacesuit rather than his typical tux. Although a similar format, Australian day bills are significantly rarer than US insert posters.
