STRIKING LARGE COLORFUL INTERPRETIVE LITHOGRAPH by Chagall of a detail from his ceiling for the Paris Opera.
"Promotional poster printed for the Office of French Tourism. Interpretive rendering of lithograph executed by Charles Sorlier, from a detail of the preliminary sketch of the ceiling of the Paris Opera. This fragment is a tribute to Berlioz for Romeo and Juliet; it also includes pictures of the Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe" (Sorlier, Chagall's Posters, A Catalogue Raisonne, 96).
Edition: 5000 on wove paper (with an additional 225 signed proofs). Printer: Mourlot, Paris. Edition: French Tourist Bureau, Paris. Size: 615x970 mm (24.25x38.25 in). Very tiny tear to upper left corner, otherwise fine with sharp, bright colors. Framed.

An unusually large late (circa 1880) photograph of Grant, post-presidency, in formal dress, sitting and in partial profile. Mounted on thick card with the photographer’s credit and address (“A. Bogardus / 872 Broadway, NY”) on matte below the photo.
The photographer, Anthony Bogardus, was a photographic pioneer, described by the New York Times as “the best-known photographer in the United States” in his prime who took “the first photographs of Gen. Grant, Gen. Hancock, Samuel D. Morse, inventor of the telegraph; Horace Greeley, Henry Ward Beecher and other equally well-known men.”
