About the Item
Original vintage advertising poster for the Andy Warhol Cars exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York held from 30 September to 27 November 1988 featuring a colourful image of two Mercedes Benz racing cars on purple, red and yellow backgrounds by the notable American pop artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987), the bold white title text on a black background along the centre between the purple pink shaded car at the top and blue shaded car below. The Cars series was commissioned by Mercedes Benz following the success of Warhol's first commissioned car artwork by the dealer Hans Meyer in 1986 for the 100 year anniversary of the motor car; Mercedes Benz holds a copy of the series (unfinished due to the artist's death in 1987) in their corporate art collection. Very good condition, minor staining, small bumps on edges.
