Original vintage London Transport travel poster featuring Rotten Row 1895 by Anna Katrina Zinkeisen (1901-1976). Great artwork depicting a busy scene in Hyde Park showing smartly dressed men in suits and hats holding walking canes and chatting with ladies in fashionable dress holding parasol sun umbrellas, one holding her child's hand by a young girl holding a hoopla toy, two babies in a pram being pushed by a nanny, a soldier in uniform looking towards a horse drawn carriage and a pet dog running in the foreground, a lady riding a horse along the historic bridleway with trees and buildings in the distance, the colourful image set within a black border, the iconic London Underground roundel logo below between an excerpt of a poem by Frederick Locker-Lampson (1821-1895) and list of tube stations - "I love the park.... and when I ride the Rotten Row I wonder why they call'd it so" Hyde Park Corner Marble Arch Knightsbridge Lancaster Gate Stations. Located on the south side of Hyde Park in London, Rotten Row was originally called Route du Roi / The King's Road (as a carriageway created by William III and completed in 1690); it became a popular place during the 18th-19th century for the upper class and gentry to meet, promenade and ride horses. Published by The London and North Eastern Railway. Printed by the Haycock Press, London. Horizontal. Large size. Good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.
