Original vintage railway travel poster advertising Richmond Yorkshire featuring a painting by Edward Wesson (1910-1983) of the historic Richmond Castle on a hill with trees and houses, smoke rising from their chimneys, leading down to the River Swale flowing towards the viewer with the arched Green Bridge visible, the bold title text in red and black on the lightly cloudy blue sky above and information on Richmond next to a map of Great Britain marking the train route linking Edinburgh Newcastle Darlington Richmond York and London below - An ancient market town with a fine 11th century castle standing high on a rock above the River Swale. Richmond is the ideal centre for exploring Swaledale and is reached by modern diesel trains from the East Coast Mainline at Darlington. Located in the Yorkshire Dales Richmond Castle is one of Britain's finest Norman castles built after the Norman Conquest from 1071; the castle was used during World War One by the northern Non-Combatant Corps and is now a Scheduled Monument popular with tourists. Published by British Railways North Eastern Region and printed in Great Britain by Stafford & Co Ltd, Nottingham. Fair condition, tears on edges, pinholes, and several paper losses.
