Original vintage propaganda poster - Seefahrt ist Not / Seafaring is Necessary (or Shipping is a Necessity) - featuring a dynamic design of a German navy ship on a rough sea with the waves splashing up from the green shaded water in front of a tall building in the background, a white seagull flying in front of the blue sky with the bold title text below. Used in a popular 1913 book about the life of fishermen by Johann Wilhelm Kinau (Gorch Fock; 1880-1916), the phrase Seefahrt ist Not was used as a Nazi propaganda motto and is based on an ancient quote Navigare necesse est, vivere non / Shipping is a necessity, life is not. Excellent condition.
