About the Item
Original vintage sports poster for the 1940 Summer Olympic Games in Helsinki Finland featuring a dynamic image depicting the sculpture of an athlete running in front of a globe marking the outline of Finland with the Olympic rings displayed above and the text below in stylised letters - XII Olympiska Spelen Helsingfors / XII Olympic Games Helsinki with the dates 20 VII - 4 VIII 1940 (20 July to 4 August 1940). This 1940 Games of the XII Olympiad was initially due to be held in Tokyo but was rescheduled due to the second Sino-Japanese War; the event was then cancelled due to the outbreak of World War Two. Artwork by the Finnish artist Ilmari Sysimetsa (1912-1955) that was also used for the XV Olympic Games held in Helsinki Finland in 1952. Good condition, creasing, tears, staining.
