Original vintage travel advertising poster in French for The Empire Flying-Boat of Imperial Airways Europe Africa India The Far East Australia - L'Hydravion des Routes d'Empire - The Seaplane of the Empire Routes 28 under construction 26m 80in length height from the waterline 7m30 Speed ​​320 km/hr wingspan 35m Load pods approximately 18 tons Crew 5 Passengers 24 during the day and 16 at night L'Europe L'Afrique Les Indes L'Extreme Orient L'Australie. Stunning technical cut-out design by the British artist and illustrator James Gardner (James "Leslie" Gardner; 1907-1995) featuring "the most luxurious Flying Boat in the world" flying at sunset with the sun setting behind the mountains in the background, another plane and boat on the water below, the detail inside the plane depicting passengers and crew members in different sections of the aircraft including the cockpit, smoking cabin, kitchen and lavatories, midship cabin and after cabin with the mail, freight and baggage hold behind the end sleeping berth, all described along with the various components of the plane fuselage, wings and engines referenced in small text around the aircraft. The Canopus was the first Empire flying boat to be built, taking its maiden flight in 1936. Horizontal. Printed by Ben Johnson and Co Ltd London and York. Original Vintage boating poster for the Paris boat show dating from 1950 by Roger Chapelet. Roger Chapelet - September 25th 1931 - June 30th 1995) was a French marine painter and poster artist. Roger Chapelet’s career as a maritime painter began when he boarded the Rollon in 1927 and painted a series of paintings of different European ports: Le Havre, Antwerp, Rotterdam. Later he embarked on sailboats and painted the fishing campaigns off the banks of Newfoundland and Greenland. In the 1930s, he became the poster artist for the main French maritime companies and in 1936 was appointed Peintre de la Marine (Official Painter to the Navy) and was a member of the Académie de Marine (see below). The ocean liner companies included: Compagnie de Navigation Mixte, Paquet, Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, and Fraissinet. Along with Marin-Marie and Albert Brenet, Roger Chapelet is considered one of the three great French marine painters of the 20th century. An exhibition was dedicated to him at the National Maritime Museum from October 8, 1993 to December 5, 1994. Académie de Marine The title of Official Painter to the Navy (POM) is granted by the French Minister of Defense to artists who have devoted their talent to the sea, to the National Navy and to seafarers. It can be awarded not only to painters but also to photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, engravers, and sculptors. The Academy of Marine Painters exists since 1830 and it’s members can put an anchor after their signature. This poster is for the 16th International Nautical Show which was held Cours Albert 1er in between the Pont des Invalides and the Pont de l’Alma in Paris from the 30th September to 15 October 1950.
