About the Item
Original vintage train travel poster for Newquay On The Cornish Coast issued by GWR Great Western Railway featuring a scenic view of people enjoy their holiday on the sandy beach and swimming in the waves with a sailing boat at sea and surfers carrying their surf boards down the cliff path on the side, a group of people standing and sitting on the grass in the foreground, the stylised title text and GWR logo below. Artwork by the English artist Sir Herbert Alker Tripp CBE (Alker Tripp; 1883-1954), a police officer who was appointed an Assistant Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police (1932-1947); his paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy and many were used for posters. Printed by Jordison and Co Ltd London and Middlesbrough. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, restored folds, minor staining, backed on linen.
