About the Item

Adapted from Jake LaMotta's memoir, Martin Scorsese's intense biopic 'Raging Bull' has become a modern Classic, widely regarded as Scorsese's masterpiece and regularly hailed as one of the best films ever made. Robert De Niro gives a matchless performance as the prizefighting protagonist, driven by an obsessive rage and consuming jealousy outside the ring that sends him on a downward spiral of self-destruction. The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Scorsese's first for Best Director, De Niro deservedly winning the award for Best Actor. In 1990, it became the first film to be selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in its first year of eligibility. Renowned for his intricately detailed close-up portraiture, artist Kunio Hagio created a searingly confrontational black and white oil portrait of De Niro as the bruised and bloodied boxer for the poster Campaign, reflecting the Stark black and white cinematography of the film itself. The incredibly effective teaser for the US release added only the words 'De Niro' and 'Raging' in red above and below the image of De Niro, generating hype for the violent tragedy. Hagio was awarded the 1981 Hollywood Reporter Key Art Award for best One-Sheet. CONDITION Unfolded, not backed. A small crease to right margin and light horizontal wave to title which will flatten out when framed. Bumps to lower corners. Light handling creases and dings through image, predominantly below title. A whisper of toning to margins. Image and colours excellent.

'Scarface' Original Vintage Australian One Sheet Movie Poster, 1984
Located in Devon, GB
Considered to be one of the best gangster films ever made, 'Scarface' follows the rise and fall of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino) as he becomes the biggest drug lord in 1980s Miami. Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, the cast also featured Michelle Pfeiffer in her breakthrough role as coke-addict mob wife Elvira Hancock. The film's excessive violence, profanity and scenes of graphic drug usage were met with a negative critical response on initial release, but subsequent reappraisal has established 'Scarface' as a cult classic. A loose remake of the 1932 film of the same name, De Palma dedicated his version to Howards Hawks and Ben Hecht...

'Taxi Driver' Original Vintage Movie Poster, Australian, 1976
By Guy Peelleart
Located in Devon, GB
Set amidst the moral decay of New York City following the Vietnam War and Watergate scandal, Martin Scorsese's 1976 psychological thriller "Taxi Driver" starred Robert De Niro as a lonely and disturbed anti-hero cab driver and war vet growing increasingly alienated and unhinged as his dreams of cleaning up the corrupt and sleazy city lead him down a path of violence, plotting to assassinate both a presidential candidate and the pimp of an underage prostitute, played by a 12 year old Jodie Foster. Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, it was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for De Niro and Best Supporting Actor for Foster. De Niro's "You talkin' to me?" scene, where he imagines a confrontation in front of a mirror, gave us one of the most iconic quotes in movie history. This Australian Daybill poster features the same atmospheric Guy Peellaert...

'Mad Max' Original Vintage Movie Poster by Tom Beauvais, Belgian, 1982
By Tom Beauvais
Located in Devon, GB
Making a bold visual statement with a clean and straightforward design, this small-format poster for the first Belgian release of George Miller's groundbreaking 1979 pre-apocalyptic action thriller 'Mad Max' utilises the same superb Tom Beauvais artwork created for the British campaign posters, which draws us in as we look down the twin-barrels of a shotgun. As noted by Sim Brannaghan in his 2006 book on 'British Film Posters,' the Beauvais design strips "the film down to its basic elements of cop, the car & the road". Set in a bleak dystopian near-future Australia veering towards societal collapse due to critical petrol shortages, the influential film starred a little-known Mel Gibson in the titular role as a police officer turned vigilante when his family are murdered by a sadistic biker gang. Essentially a revenge western meets apocalyptic road movie, the film's sparse dialogue made way for a kinetic combination of visceral action sequences, chaotic car chases and an other-worldly visual style, hinting at the barren wastelands we would see in later films. Shot on a shoestring budget of $400,000 Australian dollars...
