About the Item
This large and very colorful vintage Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Baily Circus ink on paper poster features a charging black leopard with a ferocious grimace. Printed by the Erie Lithograph- American, 19th & 20th centuries. Framed in wooden frame with glass.
The Ringling Brothers Circus was a founded in the United States in 1884 by five of the seven Ringling Brothers Albert, August, Otto, Alfred T., Charles, John, and Henry. In 1907 it acquired the Barnum & Bailey Circus, merging them in 1919 to become Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, promoted as The Greatest Show on Earth.
In the 1930-40s, Terrell Jacobs was touted as the youngest animal trainer in any circus, and was accompanied by a record number of leopards in a single arena on a given night. Perhaps this was snarling beast was one of them.
