1784 Engraved Portrait of Henry VIII - Tudor Power and Prestige

About the Item

An engraved portrait of Henry VIII, King of England, famous for his role in the separation of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church. His reign saw the Dissolution of the Monasteries and significant changes to the English constitution, ushering in the theory of the divine right of kings. Henry VIII's marital life is also well-known; he had six wives, and his desire for an annulment from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, was a driving force behind the English Reformation. He was succeeded by his children, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, each of whom had significant impacts on English history. This engraving, published as the act directs on November 4th, 1784, is part of the same series for "Harrington’s Edition of Rapin’s History of England." The detailed engraving captures the imposing figure of Henry VIII, adorned in regal attire, showcasing his authority and royal demeanor.
