About the Item

Haggin & Olin Silks"" & ""Michael Phipps Silks"" by Henry Koehler a pair of signed limited edition offset lithograph after the original painting by Henry Koehler. (American, b. 1927) The Colors of Michael G. Phipps depicts a jockey walking away from the viewer carrying his saddle and whip. He wears the racing silks of Michael G. Phipps consisting of a blue jacket with yellow sleeves and diagonal sash. The sketchy outlines and loose washes of color create an informal feel and capture a moment in a race rider’s day. The print that features two jockeys is titled, Haggin & Olin Silks from the Fleur De Lis Collection. The prints are early in the limited series 61/1500 and is signed in pencil in the lower right corner. Each is matted and framed. A sporting artist who lives in Southampton, New York, Henry Koehler was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Yale University, and shortly after that had illustrations published by The New Yorker, Town and Country, and Sports Illustrated. His first exhibition was in 1961, and since then he has exhibited in over 60 venues in London, Paris, Dublin, Johannesburg and the United States. His works are in the collections of the National Racing Museum in Saratoga and the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket. He has painted several commission portraits of well-known thoroughbreds but prefers genre pieces depicting horse-racing, polo games, and hunting in the field with horses. He also does studies of jockey figures before and after their race; sensitive studies of jockeys before and after racing. An July-October 2003 exhibition, Elegant Impressions of Turf and Field, was held at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Saratoga Springs. • 2 Antique Framed Silhouette Lithograph Prints Brown Kellogg Forsyth Macomb
    Located in Dayton, OH
"Two antique lithograph silhouettes of John Forsyth and Alexander Macomb taken from life by William Henry Brown and produced by E.B. & E.C. Kellogg. William Henry Brown and his wife, Emmaline, left Philadelphia around 1859 and settled in a small railraod community of Saxton near Altoona, PA. He had gone there to work on the railroad, since photography had put him out of work. By 1865 he had moved to Erie, PA and was married to Margaret Horrell. They had two sons. She died shortly thereafter and he moved to Wilcox near Kane, PA. Later he lived with a niece in Georgia then married a third time to Sarah Conrad. After her death he returned to South Carolina. Connecticut Historical Society still has the 6 foot silhouette of the ""Dewitt Clinton"" locomotive he had done in 1831. They also have 14 prints he gave them in 1853 of silhouettes that are not part of the Portrait Gallery. A traveling artist, William Brown was a portrait painter and silhouettist, whose subjects were distinguished persons, especially in Philadelphia, New England, and Charleston. Brown was especially noted for a series titled ""Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Americans"", published in 1846 as a book of lithographs from his full-length silhouettes. Also included were biographies of the subjects. He was born in Charleston but spent more time in Philadelphia than in the South. He trained as an engineer but in the early 1830s, devoted himself increasingly to art. He first worked in New England and then went South, spending much time in Charleston in the 1840s and early 1850. In 1842, he was in Natchez, and he was also in St. Louis and New Orleans. However, by the late 1850s demand for his work had lessened, and he returned to being an engineer, first in Philadelphia and then in Charleston where he died in 1883. John Forsyth Sr. (October 22, 1780 – October 21, 1841) was a 19th-century American politician from Georgia. He represented the state in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and also served as the 33rd Governor of Georgia. As a supporter of the policies of President Andrew Jackson, Forsyth was appointed secretary of state by Jackson in 1834, and continued in that role until 1841 during the presidency of Martin Van Buren...

    By Jane Wooster Scott
    Located in Miami, FL
This artwork titled "Disney" is an original offset lithograph on wove paper by American artist Jane Wooster Scott, born 1933. It is hand signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. It is beautifully presented in a custom frame, measures: Very good vintage condition. About the artist: Jane Wooster Scott grew up in the Philadelphia area and moved West following her dream to be a movie star. She quickly learned that goal was not for her, but became the host of a talk show where she interviewed movie stars. She photographs what she sees to recapture them later on canvas. However, few of her paintings are real, existing scenes. They are compositions drawn from her personal imagination. She has been exhibiting her work in Los Angeles and New York and most of her shows have completely sold out on opening night. In the "Guinness Book of Records" as one of the most reproduced artists in America, Jane Wooster Scott began copying work by folk artists such as Grandma Moses and gradually evolved into her own style. A turning point for her career was a joint showing at the Ankrum Gallery in Los Angeles with her comedian friend, Jonathan Winters. It was mostly a business crowd, and she sold 40 paintings in an hour. Her works hang in museums, in public buildings and private homes in Europe, Asia and South America as well as in the United States. She has become legendary for her exceptional scenes of America s celebrations and holidays, Among her collectors are Aaron Spelling, Sylvester Stallone, Charles Bronson, Kenny Rogers, Farah Fawcett...
