Original antique print. Part Ornithology. Plate I Divn. 1st. Land Birds, order 2d. Picae titled: Genus Psittacus (Parrot). It shows: 1. P. Macao, 2. P. Alexandri, 3. P. Aestivus, 4. P. Garrulus, 5. P. Moluccensis, 6. P. Banksii, 7. P. Pullarius. This original antique print originates from Rees’ ‘The Cyclopaedia. or, Universal Dictionary opf Arts, Sciences and Literature’. This important 19th-century encyclopedic work was published in serialized form from 1802 to 1820. The entire Cyclopaedia consisted of 39 volumes of text, 5 volumes of plates and an atlas. Engraved by Milton after Sydenham Teast Edwards.

Set of 2 Antique Prints of Parrots, Lories and other Birds

The two images for sale are intricate illustrations of various species of parrots, rendered in a style that's characteristic of the 19th-century scientific prints. They are labeled in German with both common and scientific names, and appear to be plates from 'Naturgeschichte der Vögel' by Dr. A. B. Reichenbach, published in 1855. First Image Description 1. **Swindern's Lovebird (Swindern's Sperlingspapagei - Psittacula Swindernianus):** This small parrot sports a leaf-green body with a yellowish-green collar and a black chin. Its bill is dark, and the eyes are accentuated with white eye-rings. It has a short, yellowish-green tail. 2. **New Zealand Kaka (Der neuseeländische Nestor-Papagei - Nestor Hyppoliticus):** This parrot has predominantly brown feathers, with a red underbelly and a multicolored head, sporting bright red, orange, and yellow hues around its eyes and beak. 3. **Black Cockatoo (Der gestreifte schwarze Kakadu - Calyptorhynchus Stellatus):** Known for its black plumage with subtle stripes on the tail and hints of red in the tail feathers, this cockatoo has a strong beak and a crest that is less prominent than other cockatoos. 4. **Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Der Kakadu mit gelber Haube - Plyctolophus Sulphureus):** With a striking sulfur-yellow crest and a predominantly white body, this bird is one of the more recognizable cockatoos, featuring a dark grey beak and circular patches of dark skin around its eyes. 5. **Rüsselpapagei (Micropsitta Pusio):** Unfortunately, there's no direct English translation or commonly accepted English name for "Rüsselpapagei".
