Antique Frontispiece of 'Gallia Antiqua' with Mercury, Herucules Etc, C.1728
About the Item
Frontispiece to volume one of 'Gallia Antiqua'. It shows an allegorical scene with Mercury standing at left beside a nymph painting the 'Bataille de Soissons'. Tragan's column behind with an angel crowning the emperor. Hercules in a niche around the side at right, below which a nymph plays harp and another seated beside her holds a book inscribed 'Gesta Eran Corum'.
Artists and Engravers: Engraved by E. Kirkall after L. Chevon.
Condition: Fair/good, general age-related toning. Some wear and creasing, blank verso. Please study image carefully.
