This print originates from 'Complement au nobiliaire des Pays-Bas et du comte de Bourgogne' by Baron J.S.F.J.L. De Herckenrode. Artists and Engravers: Published by F. en E. Gyselynck. Condition: Good, general age-related toning. Blank verso. Please study image carefully. Date: 1862 Overall size: 18 x 27 cm. Image size: 13 x 15 cm. Jacques Salomon François Joseph Léon de Herckenrode (1818 - 1880) was a Belgian archivist, genealogist and heraldist. He is still regarded as an authority in the field of genealogical research into noble families in Belgium. Jacques-Salomon Fr.J.L. de Herckenrode received the hereditary title of baron on 11 June 1846. The zu (de) Herckenrode family was an old noble family, descending from Ritter Wolfroid (11th century) from Brandenburg and settled in the middle of the 17th century in the region of Limburg and Leuven (Brabant).     Presented is an 1894 signed first edition goupil-gravure print by Heywood Hardy (1842-1933). The engraving was printed in Paris and published by Boussod Valadon & Co. Publishers, the successors to Goupil & Co. Designed as a companion to After the Drive, Hardy’s On the Moors (Dogging) depicts three hunters and their two dogs hunting ducks. The youngest of the three men is shooting his gun as the dogs excitedly wait to chase after the bird. This print is one of only 75 artist’s proofs and has been signed by the artist in pencil at the lower left corner of the print’s margin. Hunting has a long history in England and is considered a very traditional activity even today. One of the most popular forms of hunting is called “wildfowling” and targets wild geese and ducks.
