The Wrapped Coast Project Picturesque Little Bay, south of Sydney Australia was shook up in 1969 when Bulgarian born, New York based artist arrived with his wife and over a hundred workers and volunteers who brought 90.000 square meters of plastig fabric, 56 kilometers of polypropylane rope. They transformed the landscape into a gigantic work of art, by then the largest single artwork that was ever made. The artwork captured the attention of journalists around the world and it profoundly influenced the course of contemporary art in Australia. About the artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon, known collectively as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, were a married couple of artists known for their large-scale environmental installations. Christo was born on June 13, 1935 in Gabrovo, Bulgaria. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia before moving to Prague, then Vienna, and finally Paris, where he met Jeanne-Claude in 1958. Jeanne-Claude was born on June 13, 1935 in Casablanca, Morocco. She studied Latin and philosophy at the University of Tunis and then at the University of Paris, where she met Christo. The couple worked together on numerous projects throughout their career, beginning with a series of smaller works in the 1960s. Their first major project was the 1969 Wrapped Coast, for which they covered over a mile of coastline in Little Bay, Australia with 35 miles of fabric. Over the years, Christo and Jeanne-Claude became known for their ambitious installations that transformed natural and urban landscapes around the world. They worked with various materials, including fabric, steel, and plastic, and often employed a team of engineers and fabricators to realize their visions. Some of their most famous works include the 1983 Surrounded Islands, for which they encircled eleven islands in Miami's Biscayne Bay with pink polypropylene fabric; the 1995 Wrapped Reichstag, for which they covered the German parliament building in Berlin with silver fabric; and the 2005 The Gates, for which they installed 7,503 orange fabric panels along 23 miles of footpaths in New York's Central Park. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's installations were often controversial and faced opposition from government officials and local residents. However, the couple saw their projects as a way to challenge traditional notions of art and engage with the public in a new and dynamic way. Jeanne-Claude passed away in 2009 at the age of 74. Christo continued to work on new projects and installations until his death on May 31, 2020 at the age of 84. Their legacy lives on through their numerous installations, which continue to inspire and awe audiences around the world. Worldwide Complimentary Shipping Included

  • Pop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red Blue

Pop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red Blue “Yield Brother”, from the “Decade” suite. Screenprint on heavy wove-paper, 1971. An impactful work where Indiana made use of military signage, stenciled letters and a palette of strong colours creating tension between it’s call for peace and the visual language of military posters. Museum-glass was used to minimize reflection. Ready to hang. About the artist Robert Indiana (pseudonym of Robert Clark) ( New Castle, USA 1928 – Vinalhaven, USA 2018) was an American painter, sculptor and poet. He was a leading representative of pop art and created the internationally famous LOVE symbol in 1964. A self-described American painter of signs”, Robert Indiana’s works explore visual culture, national identity and personal history through symbols and colours inspired by signage and graphic design. Indiana had his first solo exhibition in 1962 at Eleanor Ward’s Stable Gallery, which at that time also represented Cy Twombly and Robert Rauschenberg. In 1962 he participated with the work The Black American Dream #2 in the exhibition New Realists, organized in the gallery of Sidney Janis. It was here that pop art first announced itself as a new movement in visual art. In the following years, Indiana would participate in all the important group exhibitions of this movement. Although the Pop Art movement made Indiana famous, he was never fully comfortable with the consumerist nature of Pop Art as his work often was very politically outspoken. In 1978 Robert Indiana left New York City for good, moving to the remote island of Vinalhaven in Maine, close to where his hero, the painter Marsden Hartley had lived. Since then he rarely gave interviews or engaged in the art world, yet he continued to align himself with political causes, designing the official poster for Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign in 2008. During his lifetime Indiana had countless exhibitions all over the world, and his work is included in the collections of numerous international museums: among others Metropolitan Museum New York, Museum of Modern Art New York, Tate Modern London, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. • Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Wrapped Trees. Basel 1997–1998. Signed Book & Print
By Wolfgang Volz, TASCHEN, Christo and Jeanne-Claude
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Fondation Beyeler and Berower Park, Riehen, Basel, Switzerland, 1997-1998 In Autumn 1998, after the trees around Fondation Beyeler and in the Berower Park had shed their leaves, Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrapped 162 trees—some up to 25 meters high—with 55,000 square meters of polyester fabric and 23 kilometers of rope. The effect of light and weather on the translucent material created a kind of amorphous sculptural choreography, an ever-changing variety of shapes, surfaces, and colors. The fabric, used every winter in Japan to protect trees from frost and heavy snow, lent the trees the appearance of precious and fragile objects. The Fondation Beyeler project was a pièce de résistance for Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and an extension and expansion of many years of interest in the concept of wrapped trees...
