While most widely known for his sculpture, Harry Bertoia employed a variety of techniques to achieve incredible results in his works on paper. Often serving as sculpture study, many of his monoprints depict the progression from seminal idea to ultimate execution in metal. They also allowed a measure of free expression not easily realized in the 3 dimensional works; From broad asian inspired brushstrokes, to dark landscapes and deep spaces vistas. Detail abounds, as the materials and implements of their making combine in both expected as well as unintended fashions. While Bertoia did not sign work during his career, pencil initials as well as a reference number were assigned to each print posthumously.
