Floral Elegance: Strasbourg Pot-Pourri - A Vibrant Chromolithograph, 1874

About the Item

This chromolithograph depicts a Strasbourg pot-pourri vessel, richly adorned with floral motifs in a vibrant palette that includes a prominent red rose as the centerpiece. The pot, which is part of Plate 108 from a collection, includes decorative handles that add to its aesthetic charm. It was common for such pieces to not only serve a functional purpose but also to act as decorative objects in the homes of the affluent. The colors are striking yet elegant, typical of the Strasbourg style, which often featured bold, naturalistic floral designs. The collector's mark "Coll. de Mr. Pollet-Mallet" indicates the provenance of the piece, adding to its historical value. This image would be of interest to collectors and enthusiasts of European ceramics, particularly those with an appreciation for the rich tradition of pottery in Strasbourg. The piece reflects both the utility and beauty of ceramic art from the region, making it a valuable addition to any collection of fine prints or decorative arts.

A threesome shows a young gentleman on the twelfth green smoking a cigarette talking to his young lady partner. An old gentleman can be seen looking over the brow of the hill disapprovingly. On the ground next to the lady is an automaton caddie bag, whilst in the back ground is a silhouette of a horse and trap with a dog following. Stymied! shows the same older gentleman raging at the younger gentleman on the thirtieth green watched...
