Old Lithograph of the Ryukyu Islands Regent between Japan and Taiwan, 1856

About the Item

Description: Antique print titled ‘Regent of Lew Chew'. Lithograph of the regent of the Ryukyu Islands. The Ryukyu Islands, also known as the Nansei Islands ( "Southwest Islands") or the Ryukyu Arc, are a chain of Japanese islands that stretch southwest from Kyushu to Taiwan: the Osumi, Tokara, Amami, Okinawa, and Sakishima Islands (further divided into the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands), with Yonaguni the westernmost. Perry (..)' by Francis L. Hawks. Artists and Engravers: Lithographs after W. Heine and E. Brown. Condition: Good, general age-related toning. Few tiny holes. Minor wear, blank verso.
