Set of 4 Original Stipple Engravings-Italian Printmaker Angelo Zaffonato c.1800
About the Item
Charming set of four framed engravings by the listed Italian printmaker Angelo Zaffonato (fl.1780s-d.1835) created around 1800.
Titled "The Five Senses" these include Taste, Smell and Touch and the title page. They depict neoclassical maidens experiencing and showing the senses.
The plates are each signed in the lower centre with the title in the lower line and the title page has a inscribed poem.
They are stipple engravings, printed in coloured inks on laid paper in good original condition, with delicate and clear features and good colour. Each has some age toning and soft foxing to the sheet.
The frames are in matching gilt and silver wood and later then the prints, probably around the 1900s. The frames have some discolouration and marking consistent with their age.
A charming and highly decorative set that would lovely in any room and come ready to hang.
