Titel: "L'Aracari Koulik mâle du Brésil".
A rare and stunning colour-printed stipple engraving, finished by a contemporary hand. Fine example, from the first edition of the 'Histoire naturelle des oiseaux de paradis et des rolliers, suivie de celle des toucans et des barbus' by F. Levaillant (Paris, 1801-1806. Reference: Nissen, IVB 559), a "magnificent work" (Wood) and one of the most comprehensive on exotic birds.
Producer: BARIERRE/ PERÉE after AUGUSTE/ BARRABAND, finished in handcolouring.
