About the Item

Stunning wall plaque by Natale Sapone. The plaque is "new" because it has been kept in its original box. The plaque was produced in 1972 in an edition of 3000, and this one is number 524 (certificate included). Natale Sapone was an Italian-Swiss painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor and designer of concrete art. Natale Sapone was born in 1921 in southern Italy, in Reggio Calabria and attended from 1931-1939 the Istituto d'Arte "Mattia Preti". By moving to Milan, he had the opportunity at the Accademia di Belle Arti de Brera to study with Professor Giuseppe Palanti, where he was taught in a traditional 19th century style. Sapones artistic career was interrupted from 1940 to 1945 by the military service. Looking for work, the young artist came in 1947 in central Switzerland and worked as a designer and decorator in a ceramic art studio in Einsiedeln . After a stay in Paris at the Académie André Lhote Sapone came back to Switzerland and settled in 1951 in Frauenfeld down. Through the support of collectors and gallery located Sapone could mainly build in German-speaking Switzerland a large network. Sapone away gradually from figurative image contents and sat increasingly deals with the basic laws of formal design. The geometricizing image orders, which are noticeable in the figurative works of that period, refer back to the development of the concrete formulation, which ended figurative phase in the 60s Sapones. Besides his work as a painter and sculptor designed Natale Sapone jewelry for the renowned company Bucherer. He also designed in the early 70s as a designer for the Rosenthal porcelain factory objects in ceramic, porcelain and glass. Natale Sapone acquired Swiss citizenship in 1986.
