10pm Moonlight
About the Item
A late winter walk amongst the stars informed this piece, the artist wanted to recreate the sense of belonging and safety created by the blanket of stars set out before her, this tapestry is designed to draw the viewer in, it has a border of rich blue wool and the infinity of stars are created with specks of cotton warp which appear and disappear when you walk in front of it, this is a subtle yet beautiful piece.
It is titled “10pm Moonlight” it has a beautiful 22 carat gold leaf and rosewood frame, (not pictured) which can be easily dismantled and re-assembled.

This piece is one of 6 tapestries inspired by the Night Sky, each tapestry in the series depicts a different time and aspect of the night or early morning. It is hand dyed and hand woven by the artist in her studio near the Thames Barrier in Woolwich. It is made of 100% British wool with a cotton warp, the wool has been specially spun in Yorkshire.
Changes in light, time and landscape and our emotional responses to it are the focus of her work, she is interested in our thoughts about dark and light and these 6 tapestries explore the texture and quality of darkness and the disorientation and seclusion that nightime brings, where shadows and moonlight emphasise our feelings and alter our perceptions.
Each tapestry in the series is a different weight and texture to highlight the qualities of that particular time.

Justine Randall
Justine Randall is a weaver and artist, she creates large modern tapestries that explore our relationship to time, landscape and the weather, she studied Tapestry in the painting school at the Royal College of Art in the late eighties.
She has exhibited her work in Paris, Tokyo, Germany and Copenhagen, and at Themes and Variations Gallery in Westbourne Grove, her Wiltshire Landscape tapestries were shortlsted for the Cordis prize for Tapestry in 2016. A featured artist on Textile curator.com, she currently has a piece in “Heallreaf” an Exhibition which showcases the best in Contemporary Tapestry from around the World. She also regularly exhibits and sells work through Paul Smith Albemarle Street London. She has work in both private and corporate collections, Hampshire County Museum, The Fine Art Society and Bupa all have tapestries in their collections.
