Antique Japanese Framed Silk Embroidered Panel of Garden Life - With a story!

About the Item

A beautiful piece with an incredible history. This exquisite hand-embroidered tapestry was created in Japan and purchased by an American man who taught English. The scene depicts a traditional Japanese garden with a pagoda temple in the foreground. Embroidered creamy bonsai trees surround it. A man in traditional dress rows a boat seemingly on his way to the temple. A single red sun, an ode to the Japanese flag shines in the top left. Surrounding the embroidery work is a beautiful purple and yellow embroidered tape with a floral design. Outside of that, is another silk fabric with a geometric embroidered pattern. A mint green frame flanks the piece on all sides. The entire tapestry is framed in a simple gold metal frame, with glass to protect the work. But perhaps the history of this piece is the most beautiful part of all. During the man's stay in Japan, he met the man that he would spend the rest of his life with. Secretly, unfortunately. They framed this piece, as well as another we have to remember their time in Japan and when they first met. Dimensions: 14.25" Tall 16.25" Wide .75" Deep
