Antique Gothic Display Plaque with Swords & Double-Headed Eagle

About the Item

Antique Gothic display plaque with Swords & Double-Headed Eagle is an ideal choice to accessorize the masculine decor! The panel was rendered in solid oak, and features brass tacks around the otherwise unadorned frame encircling a linenfold panel upon which the primary artform has been mounted. A circular plaque in red provides the background for a double headed eagle with regal crown rendered in steel and providing three dimensional effect, enhanced even more by the intricately detailed breastplate of armor into which two highly decorated long daggers or short swords have been inserted. The hilts of the swords feature knight's helmets and fleurs de lys, with embellished guards and finely designed blades, all hand-painted to enrich the detail. The symbolism is intriguing, as the polycephalous eagle is most recently associated with the Austrian, German and Russian empires, but in fact dates back to the Bronze age, and was used early on by the Hittites over four millennia ago! The fleur de lys is also an ancient symbol, most commonly associated with ancient French culture, but appearing worldwide and expressing various religious and secular symbolisms. The perfect gift for the man of the house! Circa mid-1900s Measures 31.5 H x 25 W x 2.5 D.
