Stunning and almost 4 feet tall, Egyptian Revival wall sculptures.
This rare and striking pair of hand carved Egyptian sculptures is another great example of the quality of the craftsmanship of European artisans around the 1870s. Only the most wealthy, the bravest and the most curious of people were starting to travel the world and the artisans among them were greatly inspired by all of what they encountered during their travels. It was via their artistic craftsmanship that they wanted to express themselves and share their inspiration with the world. These Egyptian Revival sculptures are great examples of what suddenly became available to the rich and famous, because pieces of this size and quality ofcourse were unafordable for people with a normal salary. With these probably having been part of a monumental fireplace surround, that surround would have only fitted in a large mansion or castle or some other type of stately building. Because of their superb quality carvings/details, their subject matter AND their tall size these rare works of art still make great decorative pieces for anyone with an Egyptian Revival (inspired) interior or a business or institute that has anything or everything to do with the beautiful country of Egypt and its unique history and culture.

- Condition:Additions or alterations made to the original: These probably were part of a monumental fireplace surround so it is likely that some refinishing to the top and base was done. Wear consistent with age and use. Apart from some minor scratches to the nose of the female sculpture, this antique and unique pair could hardly be in better condition.
