About the Item

Truly beautiful, antique wildlife wall art with maker's signature. We always feel that finding the right antiques to decorate the walls of (predominantly) antique interiors or interiors of chalets and mountain cabins is one of the most difficult things. We therefor could not be more thrilled to find this perfectly original, matching and large pair of antique wall plaques with two different stag sculptures facing each other. Only once before have we sold a piece by Georg Bommer and it too was exceptional. However, because this is a real pair and a very large pair and a very detailed pair and presented in the best possible manner, we believe this is the best Georg Bommer work we have ever seen. Also, because these are two seperately handcrafted stag sculptures with each its unique details. And these bronzed metal heads with antlers are truly lifelike and in great condition. The fact that they are in the original, blackened oak frames and mounted onto gilt brass plaques makes them even more special. Also, because it makes these deep relief and superb condition stag sculptures come out of their frames even more. The wooden frame of the plaque on the left is slightly torked, but otherwise these plaques are in superb condition and both come with the original pairs of antique metal hooks (on the backs) for easy and safe wall mounting (see images 14 and 15). Both stag sculptures also come with the signature of G. Bommer, one in the left and one in the right bottom corner. To us, artist and sculptor Bommer truly captured the soul and undeniable strength of these mountain creatures and that is a quality that seperates the best artisans from the good. If you are (or were) used to being around real stags or if you are always in awe when seeing a large stag in real life then you will see what we mean when we say that the artist truly captured the stag-spirit.
