About the Item

Antique and artistic wall tile with religious/spiritual look and feel. Another one of our recent rare (and possibly unique) finds is this antique wall tile in a wooden Baroque Revival frame. The base of this sculptural tile is made of terracotta and it comes with a beautiful creamy white, craquelé glazing. The plain white makes the young children look even more angelic. What we love about the children in this scene is that you can clearly see the devotion with which they are singing their song. They are singing with their heart and soul. The hand of the girl on the right held against her chest and close to her neck is another gesture of that devout state of being. We cannot look inside the sculptor's mind (also because we don't know the sculptor), but we feel that this tile was made with a deeper spiritual / religious meaning. Because of the high relief these singing children really come out of the tile what makes this piece extra impressive. This antique rarity also is in the best possible condition. It may look as if there is some wear on the hair, but that is just the terracotta coming through the white under the (perfectly intact) glazing.
