Carved Italian Coat of Arms Plaque with Crown and Eagle
About the Item
Hand-carved from Italian limestone, this coat of arms plaque with crown and eagle features both bas- and mid-relief motifs. Bas-relief is a sculpture technique where raised carvings have a shallow profile, while mid-relief ones have slightly more depth. In both instances, at least half of the projecting image is attached to the background.
A 16th century style shield bordered by a thin molding has been carved in mid-relief. The escutcheon is emblazoned with a central fess, or horizontal band. An eagle with wings displayed perches on top of the bar, while the base below is bisected by a pale (vertical band) flanked by six-point stars. The coat of arms is topped by a five-point crown. A pair of bas-relief olive branches emanate from the crown and trail down along the sides of the heraldic display.
Our carved Italian coat of arms plaque can be affixed to any exterior wall. It can also be incorporated into architectural plans by insetting it into an interior wall.
