Cornice ovale con impronte in scagliola – fine XVIII / inizi XIX secolo

About the Item

Elegante cornice ovale dorata a foglia oro, intagliata e montata a teca, contenente una raccolta di 31 calchi in scagliola di soggetto neoclassico, risalenti al periodo del Grand Tour (fine XVIII – inizi XIX secolo). Le impronte, ottenute da incisioni su gemme dure, vetro o pietre semipreziose, riproducono scene mitologiche, ritratti, figure allegoriche e motivi dell’antichità classica, ispirati all’arte romana. Si tratta di calchi che venivano realizzati e collezionati dai viaggiatori colti durante il Grand Tour, spesso regalati o conservati come memoria delle tappe italiane, in particolare a Roma. Le impronte più antiche, di colore rosso-bruno (probabilmente in zolfo), si distinguono da quelle più recenti, di colore bianco o giallo ocra, in scagliola. La cornice, che conserva ancora il gancio originale, misura 37,5 × 30 cm ed è montata verticalmente. Stilisticamente riconducibile all’Italia centrale, presumibilmente area romana.
